Why Are Our Children Still in Afghanistan?

Interesting Post Marianne.  I would imagine that there can be many answers to this.  I am of course an odd person, so my answer will be odd.

The original war in Afghanistan was over quickly, certainly less than a year.  The war in Iraq was over even sooner.  That was all it took to get rid of the ruling forces in either country.  But it seems to me that while the last two US presidents say they could not be further apart, they seemed to me to have one thing in common.  Both of them thought that increased presence in both countries would make them want Democracy and also seek tolerance and therefore be a force in the Middle East.

For ten years or more I wanted to believe both presidents.  But after recent riots and continued American hatred there, it is not clear to me that those countries want to change direction.  I should be careful not to condemn the Middle East, but let me say that I do not understand it.  If they did want peace, Democracy and tolerance for others, I say we would have seen it by now.  It does appear based on Egypt, and we may see it in other locations, as soon as one dictator in the Middle East goes, another takes their place.  the obvious answer to that is the one perhaps that we fear the most.  The answer might be that - that is what the people there want.

As I sit here in the US and scream for the socialists and the communists to leave us alone and just go to socialist and communist countries, I begin to see something that worries me.  I do not want the socialists and commies to change the US.  When the US was the land of opportunity there was more jobs more good things that we shared and still some charity for the less fortunate.  Now, the word in the US everywhere is less, less.  But if I want the US to be left alone, perhaps that is also what we must do to the Middle East.  Perhaps they do not wish to be forced to be a Democracy.  If so, then our last two presidents erred in the worst possible way.

If I am right, then Marianne so are you right.  We should find a nice way to bring our children home.  Maybe the real idea in this world is to stop the world government that some people push for.  Maybe we need to realize that having 196 countries or so in the world is a good idea.  It might be a good idea, since there just could be... 196 opinions of what countries some people want to live in.  And perhaps people everywhere should just stop trying to change countries, including our own US, against our will.

AMEN RN, I couldn't have said it better. My hubby constantly says, give them all nukes, short ranged and let them all work out their differences. They will never like us nor each other. They still live like bararians and apparently like it that way. So why should our children be maimed and killed for their benefit. My nephew just went over there right after all the horror of the Koran and the murders took place. My sister and her family are beside themselves. And I find myself praying more than usual. Are you aware that America is now at the bottom of the list in wealth. We are 198th out of 198. That is truly sad. If obummer gets another 4 years, life for us will never be the same and I hate to think what our grand-children will live under.

Yes Marianne.  I assume that when you say the US is at the bottom of wealth, that calculation takes our total debt into account.  And of course that is what it should do.  Yes, it amazes me.  We worry about penniless immigrants coming to the US, but the truth is that any penniless immigrant is now $16 trillion dollars richer than the US government.

Hope your relative is safe.  My marine daughter in law just got back from Afghanistan.  She returned safe and is now having a baby soon.

As for what your hubby said about the Middle East, yes, I have heard that approach before.  And yes Sunnis and Shiites have hated each other for at least 1400 years or so ... each of them thought that they should take over after the death of Muhammad in 632.  When the Police get frustrated with areas where gangs seem bent on killing each other, they sometimes uncharitably call those areas "self cleaning ovens".  In other words, the people are so hostile, just build a fence around it and let it go.  After they all kill each other and when there is only sand and camels left, then open up a Mediterranean resort.

Putting aside all the garbage RN, let me say Congrats. I bet you can't wait. I wish your family a beautiful and healthy baby. I am so very happy that your daughter-in-law is back. Let's pray they will all be home soon.
