~ Where the Sun Will Never Set on Our liberty ~
I'm curious what everyone thinks of the temporary 3 week reprieve Trump has given to allow federal workers to be paid. He has said that if they don't come up with a solution by February 15th, the shutdown will resume and he would go the national emergency route.
I'm not sure if this is a good move or not. From what I have seen, most on our side are not happy with it. They see him as either caving or weakening his position. Obviously the Dems are going to promote it as a win for them either way. The silver lining is that this may make Trump look like the good guy in the eyes of the public. He was the one that offered concessions to end the shutdown, and the Dems gave him the middle finger in return. And he is the one who has allowed a temporary reprieve for the federal workers, while the Dems have literally done nothing.
What I do know this is not over yet. What I see happening is the Dems are not going to budge. In their eyes Trump flinched so they have no reason to budge now. Especially now that the pressure for the federal employees getting paid is off. So Trump will have to go the national emergency route. It will inevitably be challenged by the lower courts where it will eventually go to the Supreme Court, and they will be the deciding factor who wins. Here we will find out if Kavanaugh and Gorsuch are worth their weight or not.
