This communist SOB is determined to destroy the 2nd amendment...
(CNN) – President Barack Obama lashed out Wednesday at those in the U.S. Senate who voted against a compromise proposal to expand background checks on firearms sales, saying those who defeated the legislation "decided it wasn't worth it."
He blamed the defeat of the deal on "the gun lobby and its allies," saying those against the legislation "willfully lied" about its provisions.
"All in in all, this was a pretty shameful day in Washington," he said, as families who lost loved ones in the Newtown school shooting stood around him. Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head in a mass shooting, also stood by his side.
He said "we can do more" to impose stricter gun laws and warned that "if this Congress refuses to listen to the American people ... the real impact is going to have to come from the voters."
He urged people to tell their senators they were disappointed by the vote.
"Those who care deeply about preventing more and more gun violence will have to be as passionate and as organized and as vocal as those who blocked these common sense proposals to keep our kids safe," he said.
"I see this as just Round One," he added.
Mark Barden, the father of a Newtown school massacre victim, said he and others will return home "disappointed but not defeated." He appeared before Obama spoke in the White House Rose Garden.
The expanded background check / National gun registry amendment is currently being debated and voted on the floor of the Senate. Initial predictive reports yesterday were for successful passage. That is not the case – The amendment is expected to fail, thanks in Part to Kelly Ayote (Republican from New Hampshire).
Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) said Wednesday that she will oppose a Senate deal proposing to expand background checks on the purchases of firearms known as the Manchin-Toomey admendment.
“I believe that restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners will not prevent a deranged individual or criminal from obtaining and misusing firearms to commit violence,” she said in a statement. “While steps must be taken to improve the existing background check system, I will not support the Manchin-Toomey legislation, which I believe would place unnecessary burdens on law-abiding gun owners and allow for potential overreach by the federal government into private gun sales.”
Ayotte’s opposition leaves the amendment short of the required 60 votes for passage.

The Truth About Guns:
Dianne Feinstein’s Assault Weapons Ban bill wasn’t on the approved list of gun control proposals that were passed out of the Senate committee, mainly because there was no chance in hell of it passing. And now, we understand exactly how unpopular this idea of hers was. Her amendment to the current gun control bill, which would have tacked on her assault weapons ban provisions, failed 40 to 60. It didn’t even get a majority of Senators — 60 votes were required. This was Feinstein’s best chance of passing her beloved gun control bill, which was proven to have no effect on crime and would infringe on the second amendment rights of millions of law abiding Americans, and that window has finally closed. President Obama was given the vote he asked for, and the votes came up short.
