~ Where the Sun Will Never Set on Our liberty ~
Entitlements = Slavery
Huh? All economic discussions should begin with the reality that the earth begins with just dirt and water, and some of that water is not drinkable. Someone must do something to that dirt and water to make food, clothes, housing, transportation, temperature control, and goods we use. The most efficient form of converting dirt and water into human needs has always been capitalism. Capitalism allows people to specialize in each field, of food, clothes, goods until they become quite good at one specialty and have very little waste of time or materials to produce the end product. It should be no surprise that computers have dropped far in price from their original million dollars apiece to often less than $1000 even better computers. Capitalism and specialization have resulted in those benefits. The first US car telephones cost about $3000 each 40 years ago and only made simple calls. The new ones do far more and cost much less. So why are some people complaining about capitalism, which brought us high civilization itself? Beats me.
There are four ways to acquire money or goods:
1. Work for it
2. Charity (which I am all for, for those who cannot work)
3. Steal it (includes forms of slavery)
4. Print Money and cheat others by taking their things and giving them nothing
I am for items 1 and 2. Many politicians are for items 3 and 4. So what are entitlements, social justice and more? They are just another word for theft, or even slavery. They say this person here is privileged and need do nothing. But this other person over there, the slave of that person, must work twice as hard to pay for both themselves and the bum who refuses to work. So, who gets to decide who the slaves and slave-owners are in this "entitlement" thing? Politicians say they will. Who gave them that power? I did not. This is equal to the cruelty and stupidity during the Dark Ages.
We can see this today in Europe. Greek people say they should not have to work hard. Their German slaves should simply support them. While Germany is hugely capitalistic and sells many car brand names abroad, has two exporting electronics firms, and has Deutsch Telekom the world's largest telephone company, what do you buy from Greece? How is your Greek TV set working out? Do you get good mileage on your Greek car? And let me suggest that your gyros sandwich was not made in Greece and shipped here.
ATTACKING THE RICH IS STUPID
Yes. It should be obvious since it only takes a bit of math. In 35 years of industry I never saw one case of "windfall profits" or "trickle down economics." That would seem most odd since those like Obama and the Pope who never were in industry say that is the common thing. I was in charge of 3 different P and L's, two for companies and one our own family. Never saw it. Let me give a few reasons why.
Windfall profits are stupid.
This was told to us by the lawyer who set up our family business. And he is of course correct. Only a fool would have windfall profits. Are liberals fools? The US government sees a C corporation as a separate entity. So then, consider it a building. If a building makes a huge profit, what will it do with it? Will a building go on a Caribbean vacation? Buy a yacht? Yes, this discussion is all stupid. Just as the idea of windfall profits are stupid. Most companies when doing well, use the money they make to reward all or most of their employees. Then the excess is used to expand ... to hire more people. This is bad? Not to me.
What did I see in industry? And I likely knew the status of 20 companies? I never saw windfall profits. One big company division I was sent to fix was a Billion dollars a year in sales, yet was losing $100 million a year. Please ask a liberal to point out the windfall profits and trickledown economics in that $100 million a year loss, since I cannot. The employees were paid on time. I know of a number of businesses that were losing money. One business I knew could only pay their employees and the expenses, with little or nothing left over for the owner who worked without pay. These are the people the left is targeting? There is no money there.
To anyone with eyes to see, the attacks on capitalism have mostly damaged the middle class since the rich can afford better lawyers, better tax accountants, and have many more options than those middle class people just getting by. And so I saw many store businesses owned by the Middle Class fail near me. And those people lost most everything. So many stores failed near me that I saw three plazas who went bankrupt.
To anyone with a brain, attacking the rich really attacks the middle class and the former American Dream of owning your own business. Sure you can find an exception like facebook, but too often I see small business failures. And what is the end result? Massive US debt and a record 92 million Americans out of work. And taxes go up since the left wishes to continue their lies and bring stupid hatred to the capitalism that fed them.
But ... sputter sputter .. what about the rich?
Take all of their money. I did the math one year and added all of the money from the billionaires in the top list of US rich people I could find. It paid for about one year of $1.5 trillion (prior year) overage by our current president. So, that might solve that year. Chump change. What will you do next year after the businesses owned by those investors and jobs are now gone? It takes little math to realize that the biggest money in the US was always in the economy - "the new things that we make" which is about 1000 times higher than worrying about the rich. Anything that damages that economy, such as attacking capitalism because someone hates rich people, is penny wise dollar foolish. It is in fact, "Killing the Goose that used to lay the Golden Eggs."
