On the first day of the 113th Congress, ten new bills were introduced with an emphasis on guns. The majority of these, eight, were introduced by Democrats. The two that were introduced by freshmen Republican Congressmen are designed to eliminate schools as “gun free zones.”

Four of the bills came from Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), who has been active for some time in trying to push more gun control legislation because of the fact that her husband was shot to death in 1993. McCarthy introduced HR 137, 138, 141, and 142.

HR 137 and HR138 would require people who are prohibited from purchasing a firearm to be cataloged in a national database and would also prevent transfers of high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Her HR 141 bill would require criminal background checks at all gun shows, while her HR 142 bill would require face-to-face purchases of ammunition, the licensing of dealers, and the reporting of bulk ammunition purchases. Can you imagine what this will do to internet business regarding ammunition? That’s right, it will kill it.

Representatives Bobby Rush (D-IL) and Rush Hold (D-NJ) each put forth their bills, HR 34 and HR 117, which would tighten firearms licensing requirements.

Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) proposed HR 65 which would raise the eligibility age of a person to carry a handgun from 18 to 21. Clearly she, along with others, have no concept of what “shall not be infringed” means.

Representative Jim Moran (D-VA) re-introduced his HR 21 bill, which would require background checks for all gun sales. It would also require gun owners to report when their guns have been stolen. While he claims that polls regarding the National Rifle Association’s membership support his bill, he doesn’t provide any sources for his claims.

In addition, Republican congressmen Steve Stockman (R-TX) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) put forth HR 35 and HR 133 which would end the federal law requires areas around schools to be designated as “gun free zones.” Their bills are based in reality with data that demonstrates that violence both in and around schools increased when the federal law took effect in 1990.

“By disarming qualified citizens and officials in schools we have created a dangerous situation for our children,” Stockman said. “In the 22 years before enactment of ‘gun free school zones’ there were two mass school shootings.

“In the 22 years since enactment of ‘gun free schools’ there have been 10 mass school shootings,” he continued. “Not only has the bill utterly failed to protect our children it appears to have placed them in danger.”

So what of Feinstein’s legislation? According to Senate leaders, they have set aside January 22 as the first day that the Senate will allow new legislation to be proposed. We’ll keep you informed.

With the exception of the 2 Republican Congressman,  these people waste so much time attacking the wrong problem.  If you ever held in high regard our elected officials.....you better think again.

Held them in high regard?  Nope, not me.  Using that logic, that one's husband was killed by a guy, then spoons made the obese fat.  One is as ridiculous as the other!

I pray that cooler heads prevail, although in DC, that is a tall order.

Obama Using Gun Control to Distract from Financial Crisis

He is doing this so he can seize on the emotions of those who operate emotionally rather than rationally, thereby diverting their attention from the real crisis our nation faces right now -- which is financial in nature.

We are still headed toward the fiscal cliff we narrowly missed days ago: our rendezvous with it was only pushed back a few months. Yet the focus coming out of the White House is on ending gun shows, making 30 round magazines harder to get, and adding a greater psychological component to background checks.

Never mind that these things will neither stop nor even delay another Sandy Hook from happening -- they are not meant to. Rather, they are meant to take our eyes off the ball and redirect all emotion to a red herring so that the real fight--a fight to rein in spending, cut taxes, reduce our debt, and stabilize our economy--is not even talked about.

Don't get me wrong....I stongly believe that the left is out to disarm US citizens.  That said, I also stongly believe that US citizens WILL NOT COMPLY.

Every good American should fully support strict gun control---for over two hundred years it has been called THE SECOND AMENDMENT.

I think that there should be two more gun laws.

The first law I would make would be:

"Anyone who is stupid enough to think crime will be lower by taking guns away from law abiding citizens while this country arms Militant Muslims with F16's, tanks and money for the weapons of their choice, while giving 3000 guns to Drug Cartels, and encourages riots and the killing of pigs (cops)is too stupid to own a gun".

The second would be:

"Any breach of the Second Amendment by any publicly elected official or publicly paid official  should be punishable by jail time."

This is the same congress that couldn't pass a budget in the last four years and yet there Johnny on the spot when it comes to gun control.

This is a press release that the NRA put out after meeting with joe bidens committee yesterday. This release says it all.

Statement From the National Rifle Association of America Regarding Today's White House Task Force Meeting
Posted on January 10, 2013

Fairfax, Va. – The National Rifle Association of America is made up of over 4 million moms and dads, daughters and sons, who are involved in the national conversation about how to prevent a tragedy like Newtown from ever happening again.  We attended today's White House meeting to discuss how to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals.

We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment.  While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners - honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans.  It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation's most pressing problems.  We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen.  Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works - and what does not.
