Obama May Send National Guard to Liberia to Fight Ebola: Sources

President Barack Obama is expected to issue an executive order Thursday paving the way for the deployment of National Guard forces to Liberia to help contain the Ebola outbreak there, sources told NBC News.

The sources said that eight engineers and logistical specialists from the Guard, both active-duty and reservists, would probably be included in the first deployment. They are expected to help build 17 Ebola treatment centers, with 100 beds apiece. The sources said that no decision had been made.

Defense Department officials said that the executive order was necessary to speed the deployments, and would allow the president to send additional forces as needed. Health officials have recorded more than 2,400 Ebola deaths in Liberia, the highest of any country.

I ask a simple question

In the phrase "National" Guard, which nation are they guarding?

Whichever nation the King of the World wants to guard?

Were all a citizen of the world now according to Obama.

Has the Nation Guard or even the military ever been used in this capacity before? Why is this a job for the national guard? If the goal is containment, why are there still commercial flights to and from the country?

Those are all very logical questions Watchman.  Therefore all are above the pay grade of the Obama in chief.

I truly find this beyond amazing.  Even a broken and stopped clock on Military time is right once a day.  I find it hard to show Obama ever hits that lofty score.

are these the same national Guard that he refuses to use to secure our Southern border?

are these good soldiers protected from Ebola?  Hate to see them infected and flown home to spread the disease.

why not send an army of medical industry trained unemployed US citizens?  that would at least boost some part of our weak economy.

and set up a hospital in thew USA only for Ebola patients?  there are empty bankrupt ones around.

whoever advises obama should be shot, hung and left to die in Gitmo, awaiting the firing squad.  they should have harry reid and nancy pelosi as roomies.  they can plot their next big investments to make them even richer.

oops, time to go, got things to do, like making applesauce, breakfast, dry some tomatoes, getting ready for a long cold winter.

There is another issue, apparently the National Guard is under state control and can only be federalized by Congress. So of course Obama bypassed congress with another Executive Order and then notifies top congressional officials, as if they makes it okay.

That was my question, too Watchman.

Can't governors deny using our guards?  And if the National Guard is controlled by states, and it's up to Congress to federalize, how can they allow this exec action as 'legal'?

What a clever idea!  No doubt in my mind that our weekend warriors are chomping at the bit to get a slice of that assignment!  National Guard?  I think not. This sounds more like a job for the outfit that has the entire world in its sights, our beloved United Nations.  Of course it would be in the UN interests to make sure we go broke scurrying about willy nilly putting out chickenspit problems with our treasury and not theirs.  Whoever is running this plot to bring us down has certainly done a magnificent job in the last couple of centuries.  Must be about time for the Fabian turtle to strike and as advertised, strike hard! Our country seems to be running around in ever diminishing circles, waving our arms and screaming about income inequality and  eventually disappearing up our collective anal orifice.

General: US Troops Who Contract Ebola Will Be Quarantined in Liberia

If any American soldiers in Liberia contract the deadly Ebola virus, they will be quarantined, stabilized, and evacuated to a medical facility for treatment, said the Ebola mission commander, adding that the U.S. military hospitals that will admit potentially infected troops have not yet been identified.
“If, God forbid, one of these soldiers, sailors, airmen, or marine contracted this disease, as I mentioned, they would be stabilized, they would be quarantined, we would go through the appropriate protocols,” Maj. Gen. Darryl Williams, commander of U.S. Army Africa, said on October 16 while briefing reporters in the Pentagon by telephone from Liberia. “People would be attending to them in the appropriate PPE [personal protective equipment]."
"As of today, no one has shown those symptoms. ... I’ve been here 30 days as of today,” he added. "And so they would be quarantined and then we would synchronize and work those actions so they would go back to the appropriate medical facility.”
Over 500 American troops are in West Africa, and according to Williams, none will directly be treating Ebola patients. However, he said that a select group of sailors will be handling mobile labs that contain bodily fluids of Ebola patients.
"I'm not an epidemiologist, but it's been shown that this disease is most manifest when handling bodily fluids--blood, other sorts of fluids, and there is no plan right now for U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines to do that,” said the general. “Now, the exception is the mobile labs that were here, and they are triple-protective.”
“The sailors that are in there performing the confirm-or-deny on the Ebola virus, they are wearing PPE, and they are testing for this virus,” said Williams, later adding, “They are handling specimens of people who have been inflicted with the Ebola virus.”
Nevertheless, he indicated that the risk of infection is “relatively low.”
“As long as you exercise basic sanitation and cleanliness sort of protocols using the chlorine wash on your hands and your feet, get your temperature taken, limiting the exposure, the--no handshaking, those sorts of protocols, I think the risk is relatively low,” explained the general.
Regarding American soldiers whose duty stations are overseas, William said it is uncertain whether they will have to be quarantined before returning to those stations.

Why are 'advisors' responding to ISIS and the military combatting a virus? Upside down, inside out, etc. We are in such peril as a nation!

presuming we get a repub prez next, that team will have soooo much to fix.  that I am sure is what obama wants.  his team wants mess things up so much, in many areas, and get it all rolling so it is difficult to correct.  we are slammed and may he be damned for what he has done and is doing and plans to do.  Hey Robin, had a nice fall color outdoor day here.  Jerseygal, I always appreciate your comments and contributions, you are a true asset to this site.

Patriots all, may we survive this nightmare and see wonderful positive changes in the near future.
