Things are going to get pretty interesting.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) says he'll issue subpoenas for former FBI Director James Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, but the panel's top Democrat Dianne Feinstein (CA) has to agree to it per committee rules. Grassley also said he would be open to exploring immunity for Comey's former #2, Andrew McCabe.
"I will want to subpoena him," Grassley said of Comey during an appearance on C-SPAN's Newsmakers."
Comey skipped out on appearing before Grassley's committee this week following the June 14 release of DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz's (OIG) report on FBI conduct during the Hillary Clinton email investigation - which dinged Comey for being "insubordinate" and showing poor judgement. Horowitz is conducting a separate investigation into the FBI's counterintelligence operation on the Trump campaign, including allegations of FISA surveillance abuse.
Despite IG Horowitz ultimately concluding that pro-Clinton / anti-Trump bias among the FBI's top brass did not make its way into the Clinton email investigation, his report revealed alarming facts about FBI officials handling parallel investigations into each candidate who received vastly different treatment.
For starters, it's clear that the FBI rushed to wrap up the Clinton email investigation before the election, while at the same time the agency launched an open-ended counterintelligence operation against those in Trump's orbit.
We also know that opposition research paid for by Hillary Clinton was used by the FBI to justify surveilling the Trump campaign - while new facts point to a multi-pronged campaign of espionage and deceit spanning several continents, governments and agencies which was deployed at the highest levels in an effort to undermine Donald Trump before and after the 2016 U.S. election.

Comey wants to testify in public so he can say, I can't answer that question due to security concerns. We see what he is trying to do.
Comey has already responded.
The former FBI director who has become a vehement foe of the president responded via a tweet on his social media account.
House Republicans can ask me anything they want but I want the American people to watch, so let’s have a public hearing. Truth is best served by transparency. Let me know when is convenient.
“House Republicans can ask me anything they want but I want the American people to watch, so let’s have a public hearing,” Comey tweeted. “Truth is best served by transparency.”
“Let me know when is convenient,” he challenged.
The tweet came after House Judiciary Committee Chair Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) revealed that one of the last acts of the committee would be to subpoena Lynch and Comey to testify before Congress after Thanksgiving.
Comey’s attorney David Kelley also responded to the report to CNN.
“We have not heard from them since October 1 when we advised the Committees (Judiciary and Oversight and Reform) that, while we respectfully declined their invitation for a closed door interview, we would welcome the opportunity to testify in a public hearing,” Kelley said.
Democrats are angry about it
Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler (N.Y.) angrily denounced the report of the subpoenas in a statement Friday.
“It is unfortunate that the outgoing Majority is resorting to these tactics,” Nadler said. “Months ago, Director Comey and Attorney General Lynch both indicated their willingness to answer the Chairman’s questions voluntarily. My understanding is that the Republicans have had no contact with either the Director or the Attorney General since.”
Comey Vows To Resist Subpoena From House Republicans For Closed-Door Testimony
Former FBI Director James Comey announced he would “resist” the Republican subpoena for him to appear in a closed-door hearing, claiming they would “selectively leak” and “distort” his testimony.
Taking to Twitter on Thanksgiving Day, Comey wrote, “Happy Thanksgiving. Got a subpoena from House Republicans. I’m still happy to sit in the light and answer all questions. But I will resist a “closed door” thing because I’ve seen enough of their selective leaking and distortion. Let’s have a hearing and invite everyone to see.”
