BREAKING: CNN Reports FOUR Broward County Deputies Waited Outside School As Children Were Massacred
by BEN SHAPIRO
February 23, 2018
On Friday, CNN issued a shock report finding that earlier reports regarding Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Peterson — the armed school safety officer who apparently cowered outside the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while a mass shooter slaughtered 17 people inside — were accurate, but that Peterson wasn’t the only officer waiting outside. According to CNN:
When Coral Springs police officers arrived at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14 in the midst of the school shooting crisis, many officers were surprised to find not only that Broward County Sheriff's Deputy Scot Peterson, the armed school resource officer, had not entered the building, but that three other Broward County Sheriff's deputies were also outside the school and had not entered, Coral Springs sources tell CNN. The deputies had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles, the sources said, and not one of them had gone into the school.
So there were four armed officers outside the school. And none of them did anything, according to CNN. They instead waited for Coral Springs police to lead the charge inside.
What’s more, Coral Springs City Manager Mike Goodrum apparently chewed out Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel over that malfeasance on February 15 — more than a week ago. Which means that Israel knew full well that his own office had botched everything dramatically when he stood on stage with CNN’s Jake Tapper and a crowd of angry parents and community members and blamed the National Rifle Association and Dana Loesch for his own horrible failure.
Goodrum told CNN:
Given the horrific events of that day emotions were running high and the sheriff and I had a heated moment the following evening. Sheriff Israel and I have spoken several times since and I can assure you that our departments have a good working relationship and the utmost respect for each other.
This is repulsive. Israel should resign from office immediately. And CNN should be ashamed of itself for having allowed this self-aggrandizing political grandstander to shift blame onto people who had nothing to do with the shootings.
What a bunch of cowards! To allow a maniac to kill innocent people, while cowering behind their vehicles is unbecoming a law enforcement officer! Considering the leadership of those deputies, Sheriff Israel, not a surprise that they would take a cowards way out, saving themselves while children died. Ultimately, the blame for those that were shot falls squarely on the shoulder of Nikolas Cruz. However, how many may have been saved had those deputies done their job?
Anti gun zealots claim that we don't need guns, that law enforcement will keep us safe. While there are good people in law enforcement who have given their lives to save others, these Broward county deputies failed in their job, allowing helpless victims to be shot and killed by a maniac! To the anti gun zealots, these deputies failing to assist or protect is exactly why we do not trust others to protect us or our families.
Exactly, Kwic! See how protected those kids were—-they weren’t! And at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the shooter walked out right past those deputies!
Considering that it was reported the shooter walked out with other kids, he probably did walk past those deputies JG. How horrible that those victims waited for help that never came, although that help was right outside those school doors.
That deputy assigned to the school been given an ‘officer of the year’ award! I’d bet some some dead students offered him congrats and a high five!
I totally support law enforcement but these people need to be reprimanded. Someone did not do their jobs and order these men to go after this killer. It seems corruption between school administrator and local Sheriff. Money is worth more than these lives.
They certainly didn’t do what they were trained to do!
I'm starting to wonder if they were acting under a "stand down" order. It would be far fetched. But their defensive positioning outside of the building would be taken under such orders.
It's either that, or all four officers displayed abject cowardice.
I said the same thing....we posted that thought simultaneously. If they were given a stand down order, or followed stand down, assume defensive perimeter, that order or protocol came from somewhere!
I have had that suspicion for a while now. Why would Mr. Peterson, a decorated officer of 30+ years stay outside unless he was following orders? (Perhaps verbal but not written SOP,) And now that we know other Broward County officers did the same thing, my suspicions have raised. They all stayed outside while the Coral Springs officers all went in. Something doesn't add up to Peterson being a coward. I suspect he resigned because he was disgusted with what he'd been ordered to do. The fact that Israel is a lefty makes me also suspect his motives.
Israel is a hard core leftist, gun grabbing jerk. He attacked Dana Loesch on CNN. He just didn't think all of this would get out. I agree on Peterson and his quitting, but, he/they should have gone in anyway.
As a former firefighter, I've known fear. But one learns to "walk through it" and do the job.
Those deputies HAD to know that every shot that they heard from inside the school, while they cowered behind the safety of their cars, was likely someone else getting shot.
I believe they should face legal ramifications, both criminal and civil.
Bruce, that is an example of true courage....being afraid, and proceeding anyway! Many people do this often in their lifetimes. I will not be surprised to learn that they had a stand down order from somewhere.
