Could someone please tell me why it is necessary to 'name' winter storms?

When I was a kid it snowed a foot then stopped, then snowed again, and again, and again..........until spring finally arrived.  No one thought of naming them.

Whoever came up with this hair brained idea was obviously well versed in 'diversity and inclusion'.  Have you noticed the nutty names they have given winter storms?

JUST WHAT DOES THIS NONSENSE ACCOMPLISH?  WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE WHO COME UP WITH THIS STUFF?

I welcome your thoughts..........maybe I'm missing something here.

I don't know who came up with this, but it is clearly a result of stupid people in large numbers.

Thank you, D.A.!   I had no idea they were doing this until the snow storm we were supposed to get (didn't happen) the day after Christmas.  The day the storm was expected I turned on the Weather Channel and they were talking about "Storm Dracka (or something like that) and I thought what's this all about ... they are naming snow storms now?  Just crazy as can be!!!
