TOM COTTON: There is no three-step plan for health care bill, that’s just SPIN… Wed Tids 3/15/17

Thanks to our own Jodi for all of her hard work to bring the members important information!

TOM COTTON: There is no three-step plan for health care bill, that’s just SPIN…

Tom Cotton made a very interesting point on the Hugh Hewitt Show about the three step process of the Obamacare replacement that’s being touted by the GOP leadership.

TC: Hugh, there is no three-phase process. There is no three-step plan. That is just political talk. It’s just politicians engaging in spin. This is why. Step one is a bill that can pass with 51 votes in the Senate. That’s what we’re working on right now. Step two, as yet unwritten regulations by Tom Price, which is going to be subject to court challenge, and therefore, perhaps the whims of the most liberal judge in America. But step three, some mythical legislation in the future that is going to garner Democratic support and help us get over 60 votes in the Senate. If we had those Democratic votes, we wouldn’t need three steps. We would just be doing that right now on this legislation altogether. That’s why it’s so important that we get this legislation right, because there is no step three. And step two is not completely under our control.

Cotton is right, it’s not going to happen. There’s no way Democrats will vote for anything that repeals and replaces Obamacare.

As he says later in the interview, “there is not going to be phase three legislation. It’s phase one and done.”

You can read the full interview here.

Dear GOP Congress: Keep Your Promise on Obamacare or Face Eviction

Lost in all the shouting over the possible "repeal" of Obamacare and its stealth replacement by a Republican version midwifed in the dark by speaker-of-the-House-for-now Paul Ryan is the only thing that matters: if the GOP is seen to have welshed on its solemn promise to clean-repeal, it will pay with a historic wipeout in the polls next year. And two years after that. And two years after that. If Donald Trump wants to be a two-term president (or, given the level of hostility on the Left, which has been agitating for impeachment since Jan. 21, even a one-term president), he needs to recognize that reality. Because while the elephant may forget, its voting base surely won't.

The successful Republican takeback of the House, Senate and White House was in large part predicated on opposition to the Democrats' unconstitutional federal power grab via Obamacare. Forget "health care" or even "insurance." Obamacare was about neither of those things, but rather used them as a pretext to establish a new constitutional principle that the federal government, in collusion with the private sector, could force you at IRS gunpoint to purchase a product.

This, in case you haven't noticed, is the very definition of fascism, and it should have been stopped in the Supreme Court, but instead the spineless chief justice, John Roberts, spontaneously rewrote the law to turn the individual mandate into a "tax," and here we are.

Trying to explain to Americans that the expansion of Medicaid (not Medicare, but probably not one recipient in a million could explain the difference) under Obamacare was simply a welfare program, not "insurance" or "health care," is a fool's errand at this point. The Democrats are counting on the ignorance of the American voter, just as they did when they passed Obamacare in the first place.

As David Harsanyi has noted, the GOP already has a solution at hand; in fact, they already passed it a year ago:

So bite the bullet, and repeal the whole damn thing, Mr. Speaker. Don't whine to us about how difficult it is, Republicans -- you've had six-plus years to think about this. Just do it.

If you don't, you'll all be back at those Kiwanis and Rotary club meetings you've been missing during your brief sojourn in Washington, and talking about how you used to be big shots.

What One Key Lawmaker Says Voters Will Judge GOP Over in Obamacare Repeal

For Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., the success of House Republican leaders’ Obamacare repeal and replacement plan, as well as the success of President Donald Trump, hinges on one thing: the cost of insurance premiums.

“We ultimately will be judged only by one factor: if insurance premiums come down,” Meadows told The Daily Signal. “If the average person who is paying their bill looks at their bill, and it continues to stay down over the next three to four years, then this president will be applauded. If they continue to go up and health care costs continue to go up, then he won’t.”

For Meadows, who chairs the House Freedom Caucus, lowering premiums has emerged as his top priority for health care reform.

But as it stands, the North Carolina Republican said, the House GOP’s replacement plan leaves in place the very provisions of Obamacare that many believe caused premiums to rise: insurance regulations and mandates.

“There’s no reason on the insurance regulations not to try [to repeal],” Jacobs, who worked for Vice President Mike Pence, then a congressman, when the original Obamacare debate was taking place, told The Daily Signal. “The idea of preemptively surrendering on the insurance regulations, it’s a question of is it … we can’t do this on reconciliation, or we just don’t want to?”

Are You Really Worse Off If You 'Lose' Your Health Insurance?

The CBO has released its estimated cost of the new GOP health care plan and the numbers are getting some bad spin from the usual suspects.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on Monday projected that the number of people without health insurance would grow by 14 million in 2018 under the Republican ObamaCare replacement bill, with that number rising to 24 million in a decade.

The Hill described the report as a "bombshell."

The Washington Post called it "cruel."

The New York Times said the Republicans were anticipating an "almost certain to be a bleak accounting" of the plan.

The implicit standard in analysis of the health insurance system is that every consumer must have government-selected coverage. But why? This chosen paradigm doesn't take into consideration the most forceful motivation of human behavior, namely, whether a large expenditure of limited resources is in one's economic interest. This standard of "universal coverage" is as artificial as the government's bloated health care costs.

Some will argue that people aren't capable of acting in their own best health care interest and perhaps this is true some of the time or even most of the time, but one thing is certain: the government bureaucracy will never advocate for your interest. Save yourself and demand a free-market health care system.

U.S. Navy SEALs to take part in joint drills in S. Korea

SEOUL, March 13 (Yonhap) -- U.S. special operations forces, including the unit that killed Osama Bin Laden, will take part in joint military drills in South Korea to practice incapacitating North Korean leadership in the case of conflict, a military official said Monday.

The U.S. Navy SEAL Team Six will join the annual Foal Eagle and Key Resolve exercises between the two allies for the first time, along with the Army's Rangers, Delta Force and Green Berets.

The Foal Eagle exercise started March 1 and will run through the end of April. On Monday, the Key Resolve computer-simulated command post exercise began and will run through March 24.

Seoul and Washington said the joint drills are purely defensive, but Pyongyang has denounced them as rehearsal for an invasion.

China Plans Massive Increase to Marine Corps to Pursue Global Ambitions

The plan would increase the number of Marine Corps personnel from about 20,000 to 100,000 people, the South China Morning Post reported Monday, citing military insiders and experts. The move will be accompanied by cuts to the Chinese military's land forces in an attempt to modernize the People's Liberation Army.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, commander in chief of the world's largest military, has expressed his desire to move away from military reliance on ground forces.

"The PLA marines will be increased to 100,000, consisting of six brigades in the coming future to fulfill new missions of our country," an unnamed source told South China Morning Post.

The source predicted the government would also expand the Navy by 15 percent.

Illegal Immigrant Crime: The Real Story

Deal with it, Democrats: illegal immigrants commit crime far more often than legal immigrants.

Why is the media fabricating a false narrative that illegal immigrants commit fewer crimes than American citizens? Here’s why: To attack President Trump’s immigration policies, most notably his travel ban.

How moronic do the journalists at CNN; the New York Times and the rest of the mainstream media think we are? And why is no one exposing this huge scandal?

First off, any data on crimes committed by illegal immigrants is scarce at best. So, because the data doesn’t exist the media is citing studies relying on data from 1980-to-1997, and published up to 20 years ago to prove a false narrative.

While dated, these studies do show that legal immigrants, when compared to American citizens, sometimes—in pointed instances—have lower crimes rates. These studies do not tell us anything about the relationship between illegal immigration and crime.

However, we do have some data.

Deaf, Mute, Dumb, Illegal Alien Beats Murder Rap

What do you do when you have convincing evidence that an illegal alien has murdered someone, but because he is deaf, mute, and dumb, you can't communicate with him?

The man who raped and strangled 16-year-old Brittany Binger left a wealth of DNA evidence at the scene. He attacked her on a long-ago winter night as she walked beside a country road called Pocahontas Trail. Authorities found his semen in the victim and slivers of his scratched-off skin under her fingernails.

Seven weeks later, on Feb. 18, 2005, detectives in James City County clapped handcuffs on Martinez, then 33, a Salvadoran immigrant who had been in the United States illegally for months. After DNA tests confirmed that the semen and torn pieces of skin were his, police said, he was charged with capital murder.

Unable to read, write or enunciate more than a few small words, Martinez communicates mainly through pantomime, grunts and crude drawings.

As a result, even though experts say he is not psychotic or severely intellectually impaired, he remains legally incompetent to stand trial because he cannot assist in his defense or understand what is happening in a courtroom. Now 45, he is housed in a secure state hospital, possibly not eligible for deportation and still presumed innocent in Brittany’s death.

.... the potential looms that someday, Martinez will go free.

State Drops Hammer On ‘Ruthless’ Doctors Profiting Off Opioid Addiction

GOP Gov. Chris Christie declared the opioid epidemic a public health crisis Jan. 17 in New Jersey, which has a death rate from heroin higher than the national average. There are roughly 128,000 heroin addicts in the state and health experts fear that number is likely growing. Heroin deaths spiked 22 percent between 2014 and 2015 and the state doubled the national drug overdose death rate with 1,600 fatalities in 2015.

The majority of heroin addicts in the state began with a legal prescription for painkillers, before transitioning after building high tolerances making the pills too expensive.

“When four out of five new heroin users are getting their start by abusing prescription drugs, you have to attack the problem at ground zero – in irresponsibly run doctors’ offices,” New Jersey Attorney General Porrino said in a statement. “Physicians who grant easy access to the drugs that are turning New Jersey residents into addicts can be every bit as dangerous as street-corner dealers. Purging the medical community of over-prescribers is as important to our cause as busting heroin rings and locking up drug kingpins.”

Military Recruits To Be Tested Far More Extensively For Illicit Drugs

The Department of Defense has decided to test all new incoming recruits for a much larger list of drugs, directly citing rampant abuse among the civilian population as the reason for the switch.

The change is set to come into effect April 3, according to a Pentagon release.

Expanding the number of drugs recruits are tested for won’t be an effort the Pentagon will have to start from scratch. Rather, this new drug panel is already the panel used to assess active-duty troops.

But given the explosion of heroin and synthetic drugs, the Pentagon deems it necessary to screen a little harder.

Inventor of the World Wide Web issues dire warning on its 28th anniversary and says fake news and government surveillance threatens to destroy it

He identified three key issues he finds the most concerning about the state of our internet affairs.

First, he is concerned with the amount of personal information being distributed on the web. Many sites allow for free content in exchange for personal information on site users, which we usually allow in the fine print of the terms & conditions pages we blindly agree to.

Another concern is the rampant distribution of false information, or 'fake news'.

Given the fact that most people obtain their news from a small number of sites and often fall victim to 'clickbait,' it's incredibly easy for misinformation to become widespread.

His third area of warning lies in the political advertisement on the internet, which is often veiled and littered with inaccuracies.

He also expressed his concern about governments monitoring citizens internet usage, and alluded to WikiLeaks' disclosure of CIA surveillance documents, saying that he thinks 'watching everyone, all the time is simply going too far'.

FBI Used Best Buy's Geek Squad To Increase Secret Public Surveillance

Recently unsealed records reveal a much more extensive secret relationship than previously known between the FBI and Best Buy's Geek Squad, including evidence the agency trained company technicians on law-enforcement operational tactics, shared lists of targeted citizens and, to covertly increase surveillance of the public, encouraged searches of computers even when unrelated to a customer's request for repairs.

Explosive details emerge about investigation into Democrat IT staffer with terrorist ties

Imran Awan is the lead suspect in a criminal probe into security breaches within the House of Representatives that was launched on February 2. Imran, who was hired in 2005, was reportedly in possession of an iPad used by then Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz around the time that DNC emails had been leaked to WikiLeaks.

As Rosiak discusses with Loesch, soon after Imran was hired, four of his family members were put onto the payroll, as well as one friend, each making the maximum amount of money you can make. Rosiak, however, believes they were likely not working there at all, but were simply ways for Imran to make more money.

“Those were most likely ghost employees,” Rosiak told Loesch. “Basically, the money was going to him and he was doing the work, but they were all making the maximum allowable salary. They were making the same thing a congressman makes, basically. So that adds up to $5 million right there.”

Interestingly, the Awans were said to have owed money to the terrorist group Hezbollah, as Rosiak previously reported.

Swedish Minister: Country Needs To Integrate Returning Islamic State Fighters

Swedish Minister for Culture and Democracy Alice Bah Kuhnke has suggested that Swedes who left to fight for radical Islamist groups in the Middle East should be welcomed back and helped to integrate into society.

Ms. Kuhnke made the comments Sunday evening on the television program Agenda which is transmitted by the Swedish state broadcaster SVT. The program focused on the fact that some 300 Islamic radicals from Sweden had gone to the Middle East to fight for groups like Islamic State and around half of them had returned to Sweden.

The Swedish attitude toward returning jihadists is seen as strange by many, as several municipalities have gone above and beyond to cater for returning fighters. In the medieval city of Lund, the government is considering a range of measures including debt forgiveness, driving lessons, and free housing in the name of integrating returning extremists.

The one on the far left is adorable.

Mayor Calls Criticism Of Muslim Prayers In School ‘Hate Speech’

Brampton, Ontario Mayor Linda Jeffrey is dismissing critics who object to Muslim students having Friday prayer sessions in public schools as purveyors of “misinformation and hateful speech.” Jeffrey was responding to critics in a letter she released Thursday as Toronto-area parents in the Peel District School Board are preparing a full-scale protest on Saturday to demand that public schools not promote one religion over another.

The parents are furious with the Peel District School Board’s decision to lift all restrictions on what are called “Friday prayer days” for Muslim students. The sessions take place on school time and include both prayers and sermons that are usually read in Arabic — leading many to ask just what is being said.

At the last board meeting, parents expressed their outrage over school board chairwoman Janet McDougald’s dismissive attitude when she was asked, “When you vote to allow Islamic Prayer in public schools, will you record all sermons that are offered in Arabic so we can analyze them later to ensure there is no hate speech being offered?”

McDougald called the questioner a “racist” and threatened to not take any more questions at the meeting.

Whites-only group explores its 'racist superiority' at MIT

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) now has a “White Person’s Accountability Group” to help white people understand their “roles both in perpetuating systemic racism and in dismantling it.”

According to a copy of the group’s mission statement, it was formed in reaction to the notorious “White Privilege Conference,” during which “a mixed-race group of MIT community members” realized “how different their experience had been in the WPC [White Privilege Conference] space and that there was a lot they could do with other white people to dismantle internal and structural racism.”

“A white caucus should never discuss issues about people of color, but rather...white people’s issues.”

Drawing on that experience, white members of the group decided to begin holding monthly meetings to “hold one another accountable to advancing racial justice in [their] own personal, institutional, and societal spheres.”

The group has also sought to engage with the school community more broadly, recently hosting a campus-wide event called “But I’m Not Racist!” for white people to “engage with their own identities.”

Only Whites Can Be Racist, Insists University

A glossary published by a university insists that only whites can be racist, while also describing terms like “same gender loving” for black homosexuals and a “Brotherhood of Bears” for “queer” men who are large, hairy, and friendly.

The University of California, Davis, published assertions and definitions for these terms, and more, in an “LGBTQIA Resource Center Glossary,” as reported by Campus Reform.

UC Davis defines “racism” as “the systematic subordination of marginalized racial groups … by members of the agent/dominant/privileged racial group who have relatively more social power (white),” clearly indicating that only whites are capable of racism.

  5. Don't ask non-white people what they mean when they say things you don't understand
  6. Don't have minority role models
  7. Harass everyone about your perceptions of racism, both real and imagined

Membership in the Democratic Socialists of America has tripled in the past year

Socialism in the U.S. is growing fast.

That's not a critique of the government. Membership in the Democratic Socialists of America has tripled in the past year, the Los Angeles Times reports. It now boasts more than 19,000 members, a record for the 35-year-old organization.

That's certainly far smaller than the major political parties and even other grassroots groups. But it's the biggest openly socialist group in America in decades.
