Obamacare Architect: We Relied on 'Lack of Transparency,' 'Stupidity of American Voter'

A key architect of Obamacare has been caught openly boasting about taking advantage of, what he calls, “the stupidity of the American voter.”

MIT economics professor Jonathan Gruber spoke at a panel on October 17 on the political hurdles Obamacare faced in 2009-10. The video was unearthed and posted on Youtube by American Commitment.

Gruber was instrumental in crafting the legislation that was signed into law in March 2010.

In the midst of his explanation, Gruber bragged about the multiple deceptions the Obama White House perpetrated on the American people:

“This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure CBO did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies. So it was written to do that. In terms of risk related subsidies, if you had a law which made explicit that healthy people pay in and sick people get money it would not have passed. Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical to get the thing to pass.”

This is a jaw dropping disclosure of the political lengths those in the Obama Administration were willing to go to avoid the hard truths about their signature legislative achievement.

Good Post.  I just saw this, and then noted you had posted it DA.  Yeah, amazing, eh? But surprising, not at this point.  If a politician told the truth, now THAT would be news.

This thing is going to crumble like a house of cards. It already is crumbling. Now that the Supreme Court has taken this up again and they see this admission by one of the architects of this mess, I bet they kill this thing.  Businesses are refusing to pay the tax, doctors and hospitals pulling out of it. What a freakin mess!

Hey Robin,  Our Vice Buffoon Joe B. claimed this was a "big freakin' deal" back then.

Baffoon is the perfect word used to describe him! LOL

There are things I would like to do to all those involved in shoving this down our throats and lying to the people! It involves a big vise! Lots of pain too!

Robin had this in a reply under another post, and I was about to ask her to post it as a discussion. You beat me to it!

They're all talking about this now. How many of us have said, at one time or another, on FR or elsewhere, that the left thinks we are stupid! We knew we were right about that, and now the world can know what they really think of 'we the people!'

Some of us tried to tell other what a sham job Obama was pulling. Only the uninformed did not understand what the democrats were pulling.  I would trust snake more than anyone in Washington.

I can't wait to point this out to people who thought Obamacare wasn't that bad!

They won't care.  They'll be proud that their guys had it figured out, because it's such a wonderful thing and we really, really needed it.

I suppose this "lack of transparency" concept is largely a matter of individual perspective.

I have long felt the current President has exhibited the greatest transparency I've ever seen---that's a pack of lies so clear the whole country can see through them.

...not the whole country Kurtis.

Then you and I have more work to do.

First, let's dispel a myth: "transparency."

This word is being used to define an anti-concept that evades the issue.

Either we have a Constitutional government or we don't.  Do they have a duty to tell us what's going on?  Any who appreciate the relationship of their Private Property Rights (Capitalism) with Freedom and understand dependence is a form of slavery (which is most of the country, even the occupy folks ideas convey the dependence is slavery principle), can see the government isn't responsive to the greatest creditor it has, us!

Without our blind payment of the taxes they claim due, government has nothing to use to pay for the bonds and loans it takes out.  That creates and onus on the government to us when they're Constitutional, and immediately displays government's blatant disregard for the Constitution when they do not Honor who government is obligated to serve for the taxes they so easily demand.

There is no "lack of transparency."  There is a lack of Constitutional, law abiding, government!  These "sub-issues" are the State run media (formerly known as the mainstream) created "issues" and are not an issue at all but a way to get us to focus all our energy and resources at doing something about a fiction, and never to approach the pressing matter: "How do we enforce the Constitution, the instrument explaining the terms and conditions upon which government was ratified (accepted) into existence by the People, and thereby holding them accountable to objectively govern?"

Anything else is Progressive anti-concept propaganda to get us wasting our efforts on windmills like a bunch of Don Quixotes.  That government and the Progressive movement doing this is so irritating should indicate instantly this is all done for Alinsky agitation 101.

Understand I just seek to have us figuring out that the Constitution won't stand up on its own and give the trespassers parchment cuts, the SCOTUS has long abandoned appreciating the limits of the Constitution when it comes to an opportunity to expand the Court's influence on America.  So it's up to us to enforce Our Written Constitution, and so that we do not give America's Progressive enemies a way to declare martial law and suspend our Constitution so they can institute their own.  There are ways, but that's for another discussion :)
