GOP revealed the 1st version of their plan to repeal/replace #Obamacare, dubbed the #AmericanHealthCareAct

House Republicans have released the text of a bill that would remake the Affordable Care Act in the coming years.

The bill is called the American Health Care Act. It would eliminate the mandate that all Americans have health insurance.

People with low incomes would still be eligible for refundable tax credits in advance of up to $14,000 for a family.

People could also qualify for Medicaid until 2020 in states that expand Medicaid.

The penalty under the bill for failing to have health insurance will be removed retroactive to the beginning of 2016.

Tax credits would be phased out at incomes of $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 for families.

States that expanded Medicaid would get enhanced payments to cover anyone who is eligible and enrolls before Jan. 1, 2020.

The bill would offer age-based tax credits that start at $2,000 for individuals under age 30.

It remains to be seen however, if someone who is only 59 years of age, yet unable to work. She is not old enough to get Medicare, and does not file income taxes as her taxable income is less than $25,000.00 a year.  So where does the tax credit come from when there is no taxable income.  She's too poor to pay huge premiums, income not nearly enough to sustain everyday cost of living expenses and does not have the ability to put out even $2,500.00 in an out of pocket co-pay.  I know that it will be necessary to meld in all scenarios and I have confidence President Trump will come through.  Obama Care was more than she could afford, so right now she is void of any insurance, which under the current Obama Care plan would be worthless from the start.

Dissatisfied House Freedom Caucus Will Reintroduce Their Own Health Care Bill

Dissatisfied House Freedom Caucus Will Reintroduce Their Own Health Care Bill

The conservative House Freedom Caucus is not satisfied with the GOP’s newly released health care plan. At a press conference on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, the representatives disclosed how they plan to respond.

“You have to get rid of Obamacare completely,” Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) said. The legislation released on Monday does not satisfy that condition.

“The leadership plan is Obamacare in a different form,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said, agreeing with his colleague.

Instead of going along with the Republican leadership’s plan, Jordan noted that he will reintroduce the bill every Republican voted for last year: the bill that completely repeals Obamacare. Then, he will introduce separate legislation to replace with a “market centered” model that will bring down premiums.

The House bill was a “missed opportunity” and “a step in the wrong direction,” Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) said.

The White House, however, has praised and defended the GOP's new legislation - although HHS Secretary Tom Price did note it is a work in progress. After meeting with Republicans at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said he is "proud" to support their replacement plan.

This bill sucks. Let's see a real repeal and go from there!

It's pretty damn bad, JG! Check out what I took from Rand Pauls twitter page I just posted. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Mike Lee RIPS Obamacare replacement bill in new statement; Ted Cruz weighs in also…

Mike Lee doesn’t mince words about how he feels about the new Obamacare replacement bill:

“This is not the Obamacare repeal bill we’ve been waiting for. It is a missed opportunity and a step in the wrong direction,” Sen. Lee said.

“We promised the American people we would drain the swamp and end business as usual in Washington. This bill does not do that. We don’t know how many people would use this new tax credit, we don’t know how much it will cost, and we don’t know if this bill will make health care more affordable for Americans.”

“This is exactly the type of back-room dealing and rushed process that we criticized Democrats for and it is not what we promised the American people.”

“Let’s fulfill our Obamacare repeal promise immediately and then take our time and do reform right. Let’s pass the 2015 repeal bill that Republicans in both houses of Congress voted for and sent to the White House just 15 months ago. Once Obamacare has been properly sent to the dustbin of history then we can begin a deliberative, open, and honest process to reform our nation’s health care system.”

Ted Cruz hasn’t released a statement like this yet, but did express concerns about the bill in questions with reporters:

I think many conservatives in both the House and the Senate are glad the bill is open to negotiation. Let’s just hope that they can agree on something and do it right!

As Ryan suggested earlier this year, they’ve never had a chance like this before to govern and they better not disappoint.

Drain the swamp? Drain the swamp? They are keeping the most costly and restrictive elements of the swamp! This bill is the equivalent of ceasing all activity in The Bay for a stupid fish! Actually, I think they made it worse.

I agree that they made it worse. :(

I'm with Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee etc on this.
I knew there would be an insurance bailout. This is it.

Hat tip, member Klyde Morgan ^^
