Jim Jordan's Speaker Run Excites Conservatives: 'The Grassroots Is Starving for Principled Leadership'

Via The Washington Times

More than 100 conservative groups and top-level activists have announced their backing for Mr. Jordan in his bid to win the House’s top post if Republicans keep control of the House.

“He is firing the base up,” said Adam Brandon, president of FreedomWorks, which has vowed to invest a half-million dollars into Mr. Jordan’s speaker bid. “He has always voted like he campaigns, whether it has been on spending, Obamacare, his rhetoric matches up to his voting record, and few can say that.”

Conservatives insist Mr. Jordan has a chance to win because the House Republican conference could tilt further to the right after the November elections. They also say grassroots engagement on behalf of Mr. Jordan will put an unprecedented level of pressure on lawmakers to give him a good look.

Boom! Economy Logs Best Performance In 4 Years!

Via CNBC

U.S. economic growth was a bit stronger than initially thought in the second quarter, notching its best performance in nearly four years, as businesses boosted spending on software and imports declined.

Gross domestic product increased at a 4.2 percent annualized rate, the Commerce Department said on Wednesday in its second estimate of GDP growth for the April-June quarter. That was slightly up from the 4.1 percent pace of expansion it reported in July and was the fastest rate since the third quarter of 2014.

Businesses spent more on software than previously estimated in the second quarter and the nation also imported less petroleum. Stronger business spending and a smaller import bill offset a small downward revision to consumer spending.

Matt Salmon Is the Conservative Choice for Arizona's Next Senator

By Adam Brandon via Washington Examiner

Gov. Doug Ducey, R-Ariz., faces an important decision in the coming days that will have national implications in the 2020 and 2022 election cycles. These elections will determine the political fate of an entire generation of Americans. The stakes could not be higher.

Sen. John McCain was a statesman and a giant who commanded respect through his sacrifices for America. He dedicated his life to serving this great nation, both in its defense during his time in the Navy and as a member of Congress. His seat is not easily filled, and his legacy will be even more challenging to live up to.

To protect the integrity of this seat, picking a successor to McCain should be guided by a few key principles. The person who Ducey appoints should be a solid conservative who is battle-tested. He or she must understand the long-term challenges facing the United States, have a knowledge of how to fix these issues, and a desire to change how Washington works. The one potential appointment who consistently meets these criteria is former Rep. Matt Salmon.

The Senate Has a Perfect Opportunity to Take the First Step Toward Fixing Our Justice System

Via Washington Examiner

To say that Americans lack faith in their government is a vast — even comical — understatement. Poll after poll shows that public trust in our political systems is at an all-time low. As a recent example, a poll conducted by NPR found that 71 percent of Americans say they have “not very much” or “no confidence” in Congress.

It’s a grim picture — but it need not stay that way. As it turns out, Congress — specifically the Senate — has a remarkable opportunity in the coming weeks to begin to restore faith in the American system. How? By voting for a bill that puts faith in restoration.

The bipartisan First Step Act is just what it says — a crucial first step to restoring our nation’s broken criminal justice system. Currently, 2.3 million are held in our nation’s correctional facilities — more people than live in the entire state of New Mexico — costing approximately $80 billion annually. For that outlay, families are divided, youthful potential squandered and millions of dollars wasted by our injudicious approach to justice.

ALEC-FreedomWorks Legislator of the Week

Via ALEC

This Week, ALEC and FreedomWorks introduce Nebraska State Senator Lou Ann Linehan. Senator Linehan was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2016. She has been honored with several awards during her career including Distinguished Honoree, Women’s Center for Advancement, U.S. Department of State Superior Honor Award, Meritorious Award, and the Chairman’s Award for Douglas County Republican Party. She and her husband Kevin have four children, Patrick, Katie, Meghan, and Shannon.

I ran for the Legislature because I am concerned for Nebraska’s future. Both our property and income taxes are too high. State funding for education is neither transparent nor equitable. We need to ensure that both taxes and spending are equitable and transparent.

The biggest issues facing Nebraska are high taxes coupled with a depressed agricultural economy, which in turn leaves the Legislature with dwindling revenues to address either.

The Left Is Freaking Out Because Brett Kavanaugh Liked Basketball More Than Politics in College

Via The Daily Wire

So, we’ve entered the “see if he did anything bad in college” phase of the Brett Kavanaugh media takedown.

The Associated Press, given its previous coverage of Kavanaugh — which consisted mostly of stories pushed by the Left against the Supreme Court nominee — appears to have gone digging into his college days but found nothing, so it had to write a stunningly bland profile piece instead.

It took two AP reporters to discover that, shockingly, Kavanaugh preferred talking about basketball over politics while at Yale.

The Weekly Fix: Witch Hunts Over Substance

By Adam Brandon

The fix is in. Congressional Democrats have no legislative agenda to run on for the 2018 midterm elections, so they’ve made a hobby out of Republican witch-hunts instead.

In lieu of discussing any policy reforms of substance, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is urging progressives to make the general theme of “ethics” a rallying cry on the campaign trail. She recently accused the Trump administration of "brazen corruption, cronyism and incompetence," and patted her fellow progressives on the back for working to “restore dignity to our democracy and give power back to the people.”

Now I’ve witnessed some impressive displays of cognitive dissonance during my years in Washington, but this one is truly special.

I support Jim Jordan for Speaker. This is a very good man that puts country first before all else. They tried to take him down with the "when he was a coach" attack. That has gone from the headlines once people came out and said he didn't know it was going on.
