Education Experts Disturbed by Actions of School, Police in Handcuffing 5-Year Old

The aim of an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is to empower parents to protect their special needs child. Ignoring the IEP violates parental rights and harms the child as well.
Here is a clear case of overreach as this child's IEP and his parent's wishes went ignored. And who suffers the consequences? A 5-year-old in handcuffs.

It seems the school has no excuse for failing to contact the parents. It sounds like the school tried, prior to this, to have the trained staffing and equipment to accommodate the child's special needs. Clearly, there was a breakdown in procedure.

I see all around me where at least two generations of parents have largely left the entire child rearing process in the hands of the state run school system, including meals and discipline. Until there is a cultural change that recognizes parental authority and oversight, this sort of thing may continue. Parents have take back their authority. I don't blame the cops, they had to respond to a call.
