This came out of a Chatroom discussion of who would fulfill what in a future Republican Presidency. Since I already penned out some thoughts, I volunteered to post it here. I would be interested in constructive ideas of who should go where and why.

Many of you feel that some departments should be eliminated. I agree - but what I want to hear from you is specifically what you would do. It is too easy (lazy) to just say get rid of... Tell us why you want it gone, how you would do it, and would you assign a different Dept. to take over some/all of its functions. Time frame for such actions.

I've missed some positions - feel free to opine on those too.

How about we limit Federal income to 9-19% of the GDP off what they collect from Tarriffs and nothing from the States or Freemen?

That works for me.  Here's an alternative.  For those lands that the federal government claims to itself (until the states finally inherit them) establish a royalty system on each barrel of oil, cubic foot of natural gas, ton of ore, board-foot of timber, etc.  This would encourage the feds to open federal lands to resource development, undercut the need for an individual income tax and properly fund the federal operation of government.  Such royalties would need to be adjusted periodically to ensure the federal government does not have an income stream greater than 18% (+/-1%).

I like - fits into the tariff theme well.

Newt would be an excellent Secretary of Education.  We don't need a Secretary of Education.  Education needs to be disbanded and sent back to it's rightful owners, the States. Bulldog Newt needs to be anywhere there is dismantling going on.  Sort of a Ambassador at large for what ever dept. we are getting rid of at the time.

...I AGREE that the Department of Education should be disbanded immediately.  THE money it would usually send to the states' for schools should still be sent, but cut every year until the 2017 budget, at which time the money would cease to flow... THIS would still represent a major immediate cut in the budget, but would also give the states' time to adjust and reallocate their own funds...

...THE above is the same theory used in cutting Welfare, as a phased cut off gives the states' time to adjust and reallocate, without necessarily throwing millions of people into the streets on day one... besides the states' have a chance to adjust, those on Welfare would also have a chance to find other "accommodations"... THE adjustments the states' will undoubtedly make, would be to cull the rolls of folks who aren't really disabled, which would be the vast majority.

Sarah Palin: EPA and Energy both.  They are intertwined, as are many departments (Note how the FDA has its nose stuck in school lunches; get fit my butt! get out of my lunch!).

The EPA has far too much power, and far too many regulations that strangle business.  Newt can work with Sarah on the dismantling of the EPA, and help her get it out of the way so her energy agenda can move forward.  As for dismantling, every EO that has anything to do with EPA is reversed.  Then work on relaxing the strangling regulations.  Both Newt and Sarah have spoken to common sense approaches to environmental issues.  This one may be the most difficult, so all capable hands will be needed on deck to accomplish this.  It will be met with the most resistance - from interests around the globe (yeah, we can tell them to shut the heck up and go home).  Both Newt and Sarah are people who can withstand this with grace and dignity (and biting wit).

The most difficult work on this is loaded into the first two years.  Year one, reversing the EOs and regulations as necessary (reviews on these should be going on now, so all is ready to go) and a massive PR campaign to sell this in the face of what the left throws up as blocks (a lot of folks still believe in global warming/cooling/warming/cooling/whichisit?)  Who better than those two? As this is happening, the drilling actually begins here in ANWR and offshore.  Pipelines get underway, as red tape and excess paperwork is eliminated.  Refineries are encouraged.

Year two, the building begins on refineries here in the US.  The EPA becomes merely an Environmental Advisory Board, with no power.  The CA central valley region begins its second year of growing crops as the new EAB says 'screw the snail darter, grow those veggies!' (ok, couldn't resist that)

Ok, just a start here too.  If it were up to me, Newt would be very busy!

I agree, Sarah and Newt could be very complementary to the cause of erasing 100 years of liberal nonsense.  I shy away from leaving any remnants of things like the EPA or Energy.  If there is something left to build on there will be some congersman or congerswoman who will find away to expand it back into life.  If we decide that a department is just a waste of oxygen than dump it completely.  Like burning down the UN building, like burying Bin Laudin at sea.  Don't give them B#$$%ds any Phoenix  to rise up out of ashes and bite future generations like they have bitten us.  I want to purge this nation all the way back to a TRUE Fundamental Refounding.  If it isn't allowed in the Constitution it has got to go.

Homer, I understand what you are saying, and personally, I would like very much to strip the regulations and laws back to the original Constitution.  The reality is that it would never fly in today's world.  Wishing it to be so will only compound our frustration with government.  Slashing of entire departments will be met with intense resistance from many quarters, not just Democrats.  If even ONE gets eliminated I would applaud that success, even while wishing it was so much more.

...I AGREE, Jerseygal... there's just no way even the most conservative Congress and President will shut down dozens of Departments, Agencies and Pet Projects overnight ~ that would literally put tens of millions of people out of work... NOW a phase out, over, say, 3 or 4 years, while simultaneously ramping up our economy by eliminating many if not most of the crippling regulations, thus providing jobs for those about to lose theirs, would have more of a chance of success...

...STILL, as mentioned in previous posts, two things are needed:  pass all of the needed legislation quickly, BEFORE the mid term elections, with all phase-out's accomplished by the end of the President's first term; second, after using Executive Orders to undo the damage that 0 has done with his E.O.'s, Congress needs to redefine the use of Executive Orders, so a President CANNOT rule via executive fiat, as 0 has been doing...

...BY passing the legislation and redefining the use of E.O.'s, this would force the socialists, should they regain some control in 2014, to have to pass legislation to undo what we will have accomplished...

...ANOTHER thing that needs to be accomplished quickly with the new Congress, is to finally put to rest what it means to be a Natural Born Citizen, versus Native Born... WITH 0, we've seen what the Founder's feared when they used the term natural born citizen as a key requirement for eligibility... 0 is EXACTLY what they had in mind when they used that term... by the way, I've been told that the term "citizen" is used frequently in the Constitution, but the term "natural born citizen" is ONLY used when describing the requirements to be President...

One way to ensure completing by mid-terms is to inform out representative of our expectations. Stuff not passed? - we vote for another guy! Plain and simple. No excuses. Oh, and refund us back your salary because you didn't earn it.

...ANOTHER thing to do is to DO some of the work for them in advance... I'VE been reviewing E.O.'s and listing the ones I think should be cancelled, with the reasons why, and will have the list ready to present to my Representative, Tim Scott, and Senator, Jim DeMint, before the new President is sworn in, and fully expect this list to be presented to his staff for action...

Our representatives should know now, you are right, Tom.  If the plan is in place, what you lay out there will not take long to execute!
