AG Barr Warns House Dems He May Not Appear at Hearing This Week – Nadler Threatens Subpoena

Barr basically told Nadler to stick his subpoena where the sun doesn't shine!

US Attorney General Bill Barr warned House Democrats that he may be a no-show and skip the scheduled hearing in front of the House Judiciary Committee this week.

The Hill has confirmed that Barr told Democrats they need to alter the proposed format for the hearing after the committee scheduled an extra round of questioning.

Each member of the Judiciary Committee will have five minutes of questioning, but Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) added an additional round that would allow both sides to question Barr for 30 minutes each.

Nadler also proposed additional questioning in a closed-door session to discuss redacted material in Robert Mueller’s report.

According to a report by CNN and confirmed by The Hill, Barr rejected the additional 30 minutes rounds and the closed-door questioning, however, a deal may be reached before the scheduled hearing for Thursday.

Nadler pushed back and threatened to subpoena Barr to compel testimony.

Jerry Nadler told CNN on Sunday that Barr would not “dictate the format of the Judiciary Committee.”

“The witness is not going to tell the committee how to conduct its hearing, period,” Nadler said.

Nadler then threatened to use subpoena power if Barr refused to comply: “Then we will have to subpoena him, and we will have to use whatever means we can to enforce the subpoena.”

A Republican spokesman for the House Judiciary hit back at Nadler’s circus hearing format, according to CNN.

“The only thing, apparently, that will satisfy Democrats, who refuse to read the less-redacted report, is to have staff pinch hit when a cabinet official appears before us,” the spokesperson said. “What actual precedent is there for our committee making such demands of a sitting attorney general as part of our oversight duties? The attorney general isn’t a fact witness, and this committee’s investigations — as Democrat leadership reminds us daily — don’t constitute impeachment, so Democrats have yet to prove their demands anything but abusive and illogical in light of the transparency and good faith the attorney general has shown our committee.”

Barr is also scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary on Wednesday.

I like AG Barr! I think he is whip smart. They way he looks at people in congress when they ask him questions cracks me up. It's like he is thinking to himself...What do you all have a combined IQ of about 70. LOL

I found this pretty funny too.

BOOM ... The House Judiciary Committee has been told that AG Barr will not testify at a planned hearing Thursday, an aide to the panel told Fox News -- Democrats vowed to hold the hearing anyway. The honey badger says hell no, I’m busy about to take down the deep state.

He pretty much said to the Dems...Bring it!

AG William Barr is refusing to testify before the House Judiciary Committee, daring Democrats to subpoena him.

Attorney General William Barr has decided not to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

The move comes after Barr learned last week that Democrats on the committee were planning to have staff attorneys question him during the hearing, which planned to focus on his oversight of the Russia investigation and the special counsel Robert Mueller.

Barr threatened not to appear before the committee after he learned that fact, because the Justice Department reportedly believes staff lawyers should not be allowed to question the attorney general.

"It's none of the business of a witness to try to dictate try to a congressional committee what our procedures for questioning him are," House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler said earlier this week, in response to Barr's threat.

Sarah Sanders: Perhaps ‘Pathetic’ Chairman Jerry Nadler Should ‘Resign’

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders ridiculed House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler on Thursday for proposing that House staff attorneys question Attorney General Bill Barr on Thursday.

“If he and his committee aren’t capable of actually asking the attorney general questions themselves and need to staff that out, it seems like a pretty pathetic moment for the chairman of that committee,” Sanders told reporters at the White House on Thursday.

Sanders commented on the proposed hearing after Barr declined to attend, citing the unusual step of bringing in staff counsel to grill the attorney general.

”Look, we lost confidence in Jerry Nadler a long time ago, but it is surprising to find out that he actually lost confidence in himself and his capability to do his job,” Sanders added.

She suggested that Nadler resign.

“If he can’t, and he’s not capable of asking the attorney general questions, maybe he should step down and resign and allow somebody else to do it,” Sanders said.
